Venice 2003 and 2015

The banner by the FLEAS Collective (2003) and the same spot 12 years later
12 years seperate the image on the left (2003) from the image on the right (2015), both taken at the Arsenale garden during the Venice Biennial. Martha Rosler and the FLEAS Collective (founded in 2012 by Daniel Blochwitz, Jill Dawsey, Deborah Kelly, Ellen Moffat, Horit Herman Peled, Martha Rosler, Trebor Scholz and Mary Jo Walters at ACA in Florida) produced the pictured banner collectively from their far-flung locations for the Utopia Station section at the Arsenale of the Venice Biennial in 2003. Time flies. And the fence that once held the banner is now hidden within a thick hedge. In the/our beautiful future ...

Visiting the Venice Biennial

Just a few impression from the Venice Biennial, with so many more fantastic works that are not pictured, like those by Adrian Piper, Chantal Akerman, Alexander Kluge, Walker Evans, Lorna Simpson, Keith Calhoun & Chandra McCormick, et cetera: I think what moved me most about this Biennial, and in particular the main exhibition "All the World's Futures" curated by Okwui Enwezor, was the topical commitment and the respectful treatment of the artists/works included.
